Ohio Governor Candidate Faces Backlash Over Slurred Speech

Amy Acton, the Democratic nominee for Ohio’s governorship, has come under scrutiny after a speech where many noted her challenging delivery, prompting comparisons to Kamala Harris.

During the event, held under a backdrop that read “FIGHTING FOR TOLEDO,” Acton fumbled her words. She stated, “Truth and justice, I just wrote on the word… words back here. That is… I am honored to be here,” which was marked by a noticeable pause.

Mixed Messages

In separate clips from the same evening, she awkwardly mixed up transportation references while comparing her travel to that of opponent Vivek Ramaswamy. “Not in a big Jeep flying over like Ohio’s a fly—I mean in a big jet. He’s flying in a Jeep,” she remarked.

The clips have been widely circulated by conservative commentators. Eric Daugherty from Florida’s Voice claimed that “Amy Acton is HAMMERED” and noted her slurring, which garnered over a million views. Jack Posobiec described the video as giving off “Kamala Happy Hour vibes.”

Public Reactions

Comments on social media continued, with Loomer Unleashed sharing Acton’s Jeep remark and questioning, “Um, is Amy drunk again?” Charles Downs, a network contributor, criticized the speech’s clarity, citing it as evidence she is “unfit to be Ohio’s Governor.” One social media user even referred to her as “the white Kamala.”

Notably, Acton’s prior comments at a Labor Day event also sparked concerns, particularly her repeated claims of “You cannot buy this state. You cannot buy Ohio. You can’t buy us.” Responses from that appearance prompted similar scrutiny regarding her speech.

Acton’s campaign has pushed back against speculation regarding any substance abuse, citing a 2019 police response to her home, where she claimed she had only one drink and was taking prescribed medication, asserting she was not intoxicated.
