Obama-Appointed Judge Releases Woman Accused of Threatening to Kill Trump

A New York City woman who made alarming social media posts threatening to assassinate President Donald Trump was quietly released last week by a Democrat-appointed federal judge.

Chief U.S. District Judge James Boasberg, an Obama appointee, ordered the release of Nathalie Rose Jones, 50, on Aug. 27. She will remain under electronic monitoring and must receive psychiatric treatment while at home in New York.

The move reversed a prior decision from U.S. Magistrate Judge Moxila Upadhyaya, who had denied Jones bond earlier in August over the “persistent and specific” nature of her threats.

Explicit Threats Against the President

Jones’ social media posts from early August included violent threats directed at Trump.

“I literally told FBI in five states today that I am willing to sacrificially kill this POTUS by disemboweling him and cutting out his trachea with Liz Cheney and all The Affirmation present,” Jones allegedly wrote on Facebook on Aug. 6.

In another post, she urged Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to “arrange the arrest and removal ceremony of POTUS Trump” at the White House.

During an Aug. 15 interview with Secret Service agents, Jones allegedly admitted she would “carry out the mission of killing” Trump with a bladed weapon if given the chance.

Mental Health History

Friends and acquaintances told the court that Jones has a history of schizophrenia and other mental health struggles but has never engaged in physical violence.

Judge Boasberg factored those statements into his release order.

Federal Response

Jones’ arrest was announced by newly appointed D.C. U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro, who vowed aggressive prosecution.

“Threatening the life of the President is one of the most serious crimes and one that will be met with swift and unwavering prosecution,” Pirro said in a statement. “Make no mistake — justice will be served.”

Awaiting Trial

Jones faces felony charges of threatening to kill the president.

A grand jury will decide whether the case moves forward to trial. For now, she remains under strict release conditions, monitored electronically and required to undergo psychiatric evaluation.
