Nino Mangione has emerged victorious in the Baltimore County Council elections, contrasting sharply with his cousin, Luigi Mangione, who faces serious criminal accusations. Nino campaigned vigorously on a tough-on-crime Republican platform.
<pWinning the 5th District seat, Nino garnered 48.7% of the vote against Democrat Shawn McIntosh’s 45.2% and independent Cory Shaffer’s 6%. The district is noted for being highly competitive.
<pNino, 39, previously served in the Maryland House of Delegates and was appointed to fill retiring Councilmember Wade Kach's term. He now seeks a full term following his recent election victory.
<pIn addition to his political role, he hosts the conservative talk show The Right Side on WCBM, identifying as a conservative Republican.
<pHis campaign focused heavily on public safety, advocating for law enforcement and stricter penalties for violent offenders. His website states, “Violent crime is increasing in Baltimore County. Nino believes citizens should feel safe in their homes.” He argues that the judicial system has strayed too far left and calls for justice to be prioritized for victims.
<pNino also worked to position himself as a champion for taxpayers against what he defines as “woke” policies, receiving backing from the Baltimore County Fraternal Order of Police.

Nino and Luigi Mangione share a family legacy as among the 37 grandchildren of Nick Mangione Sr., a notable real estate developer in Baltimore until his passing in 2008. The Mangione family has deep roots in the region.
<pLuigi Mangione recently pleaded guilty to charges stemming from the 2024 shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, admitting he traveled with intent to commit murder.
<pIn light of Luigi's legal troubles, Nino expressed his family's devastation through a statement on X, offering condolences to the Thompson family. Nino also scrapped a December fundraiser due to the gravity of the situation involving his cousin and has refrained from further comment.
