Director James Gunn has confirmed what many suspected: the upcoming Superman reboot will be packed with politics, and its core message will center on “immigration” and “human kindness.”
In an interview with The Sunday Times, Gunn called the iconic hero “an immigrant that came from other places” and described Superman as a “story of America.”
“It is mostly a story that says basic human kindness is a value — and is something we have lost,” Gunn claimed.
Superman, Reimagined for 2025
The film, set to release July 11, stars David Corenswet as Superman and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. It’s a reboot of 2013’s Man of Steel and meant to launch an all-new DC Universe.
Gunn says the movie will explore themes that “play differently” in red and blue America — from rural Kansas to liberal Metropolis.
“Yes, It’s About Politics”
“Yes, it’s about politics,” Gunn admitted.
He said some people will be offended simply because the movie promotes “kindness.”
“But screw them,” he added.
The film will reportedly blend political messaging with fantasy elements — including a flying dog in a cape — but at its heart is a debate over morality and whether killing is ever justified.
“It’s really about [Superman and Lois Lane’s] relationship and how differing moral perspectives can pull two people apart,” Gunn said.
Hollywood Pushes Another Agenda
Critics argue this is yet another example of Hollywood hijacking iconic American stories to push a progressive political narrative — turning Superman into a metaphor for open borders and moral relativism.
With Superman rebranded as an “immigrant” and the film emphasizing red vs. blue America, many longtime fans are asking: Will this still be the Superman we know — or just another left-wing lecture in a cape?
