New Documentary on Melania Trump Soars to the Top of Amazon Prime Charts

The documentary titled ‘Melania’ has quickly claimed the top position on Amazon Prime Video’s movie charts in the United States shortly after its debut streaming.

Released on March 9, it achieved the number one spot by the next day, as per FlixPatrol data. While it was primarily successful in the U.S., it also entered the top 10 in several global markets, including second place in South Africa and third place in Ireland and Romania.

Melania Trump herself acknowledged the documentary’s impressive streaming success through a post on social media, sharing a celebratory graphic about its achievement on Amazon Prime.

Directed by Brett Ratner and produced by Amazon MGM Studios, ‘Melania’ captures the 20 days prior to the Trump family’s return to the White House following the 2024 election. It presents Melania Trump’s viewpoint during this significant transition in early 2025, exploring her experiences and strategic preparations.

Amazon acquired the documentary for around $40 million, supplemented by an additional $35 million for promotion, marking it as one of the priciest in its realm.

The film had its theatrical launch on January 30, 2026, following a premiere the day before at the Trump-Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. It opened in 1,778 theaters nationwide, bringing in just over $7 million during its opening weekend. This performance marked the strongest debut for a nonfiction feature in over ten years, outpacing the $5 million opening of the 2023 documentary ‘After Death’ from Angel Studios.

The impressive $7 million debut exceeded expectations, surpassing action films such as Jason Statham’s Shelter, which opened at $5.5 million. Ultimately, the film grossed about $16.4 million domestically, wrapping up its theatrical run after around five weeks.

Setting a new standard for political and biographical nonfiction releases, ‘Melania’ stands out as a significant achievement in its genre.
