Comedian Jon Stewart took aim at Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) during a recent segment of Comedy Central’s The Daily Show, where he criticized Pelosi and other members of Congress for allegedly using their privileged access to information for personal financial benefit.
Stewart referenced New Jersey Sen. Robert Menendez’s (D) corruption trial to segue into his critique of Pelosi on Monday’s episode. He suggested that Menendez’s actions were unnecessary given the lucrative opportunities for legal corruption within the Senate.
During the segment, Stewart played a clip of Peter Schweizer on CSPAN highlighting the outperformance of the “average” senator’s stock portfolio compared to the stock market, emphasizing the disparities in success rates between senators and hedge funds.
“How do they do it?” Stewart asked sarcastically. “The secret is an understanding of the intricate interconnectivity of global markets. I’m kidding. They have inside information.”
