First Lady Melania Trump delivered a scathing response to late-night host Jimmy Kimmel on Sunday, branding him as “a coward” and demanding ABC take notice following his recent mockery during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.
In a statement shared from her official account, the first lady said, “Kimmel’s hateful and violent rhetoric is intended to divide our country.” She emphasized that his remarks about her family do not qualify as comedy, asserting instead that they are damaging and exacerbate the nation’s political turmoil.
The turmoil followed Kimmel’s segment on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” which aired Thursday, where he made jokes about both the first lady’s personal life and her upcoming birthday.
Kimmel remarked, “Our First Lady, Melania, is here. Look at Melania, so beautiful. Mrs. Trump, you have a glow like an expectant widow.” His comments played upon longstanding media narratives regarding the Trump marriage.
He followed with a quip about how she might celebrate her birthday, suggesting, “She’s planning to celebrate at home the same way she always does, looking out a window and whispering, ‘What have I done?’”
The evening turned chaotic when Cole Allen, 31, armed with multiple weapons, approached a Secret Service checkpoint near the venue, resulting in an officer being shot in a ballistic vest. Trump, Melania, and other officials were swiftly escorted out of the area.

Melania Trump condemned Kimmel’s jokes as emblematic of broader media hostility, directly challenging ABC’s complicity. She stated, “People like Kimmel shouldn’t have the opportunity to enter our homes each evening to spread hate.”
Continuing her criticism, she asserted, “A coward, Kimmel hides behind ABC because he knows the network will keep running cover to protect him.”
