Now that President Donald Trump is once again in power, longtime critic Meghan McCain is sounding very different.
For years, the daughter of the late Sen. John McCain has quarreled with Trump’s leadership style and past statements, none more so than his caustic comments about her father. She took her criticisms center stage while co-hosting ABC’s ultra-liberal morning show, “The View,” until she departed in 2021. During that time, she gained so much notoriety that Trump himself occasionally responded to her outbursts.
McCain, 40, sounds much more diplomatic in her latest statement expressing optimism about the president’s second term.
“I am sorry some of you are so disappointed I never became a Liz Cheney/never trump/resistance figure,” she wrote to her 820,000 followers on X. “I will always have my personal issues with Trump but I do support and am grateful for many of the much needed policy changes his administration is implementing. I also, as you know support and admire many of his cabinet members.”
President Trump enters his second week with wind in his sails. On his first day, he signed over 100 executive orders that effectively paralyzed the opposition as he overwhelmed them with sweeping changes across the federal government.
At the same time, U.S. Senate Republicans have largely lined up behind his cabinet nominees. The most controversial pick, Pete Hegseth, was confirmed as U.S. Secretary of Defense with just three GOP defections.
Going on, McCain sounds like she’s woken up to the reality of Trump’s grip over her party.
“I choose to live in the real world and accept the reality of the political landscape we live in. Nothing productive comes from screaming your head off on CNN and calling everyone who voted for Trump racist and ignorant. It also just isn’t accurate,” she writes.
“I also don’t understand people who think their worldview is the only world view that exists and the most cruel, close minded, awful people I’ve ever worked with or encountered were progressive democrats.”
She concludes: “I have lived my entire adult live a proud, outspoken conservative woman and Trump never changed or morphed that, unlike it did for so many others who abandoned their principles.”
As an author and occasional TV host, McCain isn’t immune from the pressures of drawing eyeballs to her work. She currently writes a column for the Daily Mail, a publication that is frequently in touch with the Trump orbit and receives scoops about its machinations. Much of her focus has been on elevating her own podcast, “Meghan McCain Has Entered the Chat,” which she launched in late 2023.
Social media users were largely appreciative of McCain’s change in attitude, giving her the benefit of the doubt after spending years jeering from the sidelines.
“Great to see a nuanced view from you Meghan, acknowledging both criticisms and positives of Trump’s administration,” one top commentator wrote. “Your independence and willingness to speak your mind are refreshing in today’s polarized landscape.”
Funny how Trump’s enemies are suddenly MAGA! McCain and virtually all SocMed oligarchs are suddenly America First!
I hope President Trump knows better than to trust them!
These people showed their true colors as cheerleaders and large donors of the Biden Cartel! It sure seems like a head-fake to get enemy agents infiltrated to get close to Trump!
Don’t trust them!
