Three people were killed and nine others wounded when gunfire erupted early Sunday at a Brooklyn lounge, in what police believe was a gang-related shooting, Associated Press reported.
The violence broke out just before 3:30 a.m. at Taste of the City Lounge in Crown Heights, where investigators believe up to four shooters opened fire after a dispute, according to Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch.
A 19-year-old man died at the scene, while two other men, ages 35 and 27, later died at a hospital. The other nine victims, ranging from 19 to 61 years old, were being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
At least 42 shell casings from 9mm and .45-caliber weapons were recovered, along with one firearm found in a nearby street. No arrests have been made.
Officials Respond
Calling the incident “a tragic, senseless act of violence,” Tisch said the shooting is an anomaly during a year when the city has recorded the lowest number of shootings and shooting victims on record in the first seven months.
Mayor Eric Adams said the attack underscores the city’s ongoing effort to combat illegal firearms. “This is the second within weeks,” Adams said, referencing the July 29 shooting at a Manhattan office tower that killed four, including a police officer.
“We don’t want this to turn into a normal course of doing business of violence in our city.”
Adams said crisis management teams had been mobilized to help victims’ families and to prevent retaliation. He urged anyone with information to contact NYPD Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS.
