Hunter Kozak, the student who questioned Charlie Kirk about transgender shooters moments before Kirk was assassinated, has released a video statement on Instagram.
Exchange Before Shooting
Kozak’s question came during Kirk’s student Q&A at Utah Valley University on Wednesday.

“Do you know how many transgender Americans have been mass shooters over the last 10 years?” Kozak asked.
“Too many,” Kirk replied, drawing cheers from the crowd.
Kozak answered that the number was five and pressed further, asking about the total number of mass shooters overall.

Kirk began to respond, asking whether the count included gang violence.
At that moment, the shooter opened fire and struck Kirk in the neck.
Aftermath and Irony
The tragic timing left Kozak as the last person to publicly speak with Kirk.
He acknowledged the irony of his exchange in his video statement.
“People have obviously pointed to the irony that I was asking a question about shootings just before Kirk was shot,” Kozak said.
Kozak explained that his intent was to highlight what he saw as the left’s peaceful approach.

“The point that I was trying to make is how peaceful the left was… right before he got shot,” Kozak said in the video.
He added that the only way that message makes sense is “if we stay peaceful.”
Though he emphasized his political disagreements with Kirk, Kozak said violence was never justified.
“As much as I disagree with Charlie Kirk… he is still a human being,” Kozak said.
“Have we forgotten that? Are we crazy?” he asked.
