Former “Republican” Gov. of New Jersey Chris Christie attempted to court Christian conservative voters by attacking former President Trump at the Faith and Freedom Coalition in DC. In videos, the audience booed Christie and shouted “We love Trump” in response.
Leo Terrell shared a clip and added, “Go home #ChrisChristie”.
A longer video shared below shows more on the crowd’s reaction to Christie’s digs at Trump.
“I’m running because he’s [Trump] let us down,” Christie tells the audience. “He’s unwilling to take responsibility for any of the mistakes that were made, any of the faults that he has, and any of the things that he’s done. And that is not leadership everybody, that is a failure of leadership. ”
Many in the crowd interjected booing Christie’s attack. He then attempted to shame those that booed with, “You can boo all you want, but here’s the thing: Our faith teaches us that people have to take responsibility for what they do, people have to stand up and take accountability for what they do.”
“I cannot stand by, and as soon as I’ve started to be critical after all of that and after he offered me White Houe Cheif of Staff, now what he does is call me names and belittle me,” Christie complained.
Christie is polling with abysmal numbers in the GOP primary. Five Thirty Eight shows Christie currently polling at about 2%, while Donald Trump is leading the pack with over 52% thirty points ahead of the closest competitor.
While Christie vows he will be the alternative to Trump, he was unsuccessful in 2016, dipping out and eventually stumping for Trump. It seems Christie sees attacking Trump as his ticket to becoming the GOP nominee. This tactic that doesn’t appear to bode well for him, but maybe he’ll get a book deal instead, or a gig at MSNBC?
