Leftist Candidate’s Emotional Outburst Following Primary Defeat

Kat Abughazaleh, a far-left content creator, experienced a public meltdown after her defeat in the Democratic primary for Illinois’ 9th Congressional District. This happened shortly after her concession speech on Tuesday evening.

The district, located in parts of Chicago’s North Side and northern suburbs, is known for being one of the most liberal areas in the state. Thus, the primary winner is almost guaranteed to secure a seat in the upcoming November elections.

Amid tight polling, Evanston Mayor Daniel Biss took the lead with approximately 29 percent of the votes, edging out 15 fellow candidates. Abughazaleh followed closely, garnering around 26 percent, with State Senator Laura Fine trailing at just over 20.

While other competitors like Bushra Amiwala received merely over 5 percent, the tight race meant only a few thousand votes separated Biss and Abughazaleh, with the split field preventing a clear majority.

At her campaign watch party, Abughazaleh, 26, articulated her frustrations, stating, “I don’t know if you heard, but we didn’t win, and it really f***ing sucks. We came really close.” She labeled herself as a “squad-aligned” candidate aiming for progress.

“We forced our opponents to take a more aggressive stance against this administration. We faced fierce opposition, including AIPAC funding and dark-money campaigns, and made them use everything they had just to defeat us,” she asserted.

Despite the loss, she framed her campaign as a triumph for the far-left. “We need to send a strong message to this administration: your jobs are not safe. This is just the beginning; we refuse to accept the status quo,” she continued. Her speech was peppered with outbursts against government policies, including a scathing remark against Trump.

“When I said I would dedicate my life to holding this administration accountable, I meant it. I’m sorry this feels like a loss, but f**k Trump, f**k ICE, free Palestine, I love you all.”

Throughout her campaign, Abughazaleh was actively involved in anti-ICE protests in Broadview. She participated in various disruptions, including one instance where she and fellow protesters blocked an ICE vehicle.

In October, she and five others were charged with conspiracy related to obstructing a federal officer, a felony, among other misdemeanors. Allegations included damaging an ICE vehicle and aggressive behavior toward law enforcement.

The group pleaded not guilty in federal court on November 12, 2025. They were granted release on bond pending further legal proceedings, as the case remains ongoing.
