A man facing charges for the devastating Palisades Fire reportedly clung to anti-wealth sentiments and leftist rhetoric prior to the fire. According to prosecutors, he expressed a desire to torch the area out of disdain for affluent individuals.
Jonathan Rinderknecht, aged 30, stands accused in federal court of arson relating to the inferno that ravaged Pacific Palisades in early 2025. Prosecutors assert that his online activity and remarks reflect a hostility toward “billionaires” and an unsettling admiration for Luigi Mangione.
Court documents indicate that Rinderknecht became obsessed with Mangione, who prosecutors identified as involved in a notorious killing of a health care CEO. Investigators allege he frequently searched terms like “free Luigi Mangione” and “let’s take down all the billionaires.”
Prosecutors further assert that this fixation infiltrated his work as an Uber driver, where he expressed his frustrations to passengers leading up to the fire.
It’s now been revealed that Jonathan Rinderknecht, the man who ignited the Palisades fire that killed 12 people and burned down 7,000 homes, is a die-hard leftist fixated on “restorative justice” and Luigi Mangione.

According to the trial memorandum, many passengers from December 31, 2024, and January 1, 2025, described Rinderknecht as intense and angry, driving erratically while ranting about Luigi Mangione, capitalism, and vigilante justice.
When questioned about the motive for setting the fire, Rinderknecht allegedly provided a troubling justification. He reportedly stated it would stem from feelings of resentment toward the wealthy enjoying their riches while the masses feel “enslaved by them,” likening it to the murder case against Mangione.
The Palisades Fire resulted in the destruction of thousands of homes and businesses, claiming the lives of 12 people. Prosecutors estimate the damage at around $150 billion. Rinderknecht has maintained his innocence and has been held without bail since his October arrest, court records show.
