Kermit Gosnell, Notorious Abortionist, Passes Away in Prison

Kermit Gosnell, a notorious figure in the abortion industry, passed away earlier this month at 85 years old while serving his life sentence in Pennsylvania. He was held at the State Correctional Institution – Huntingdon.

Filmmakers and journalists Phelim McAleer and Ann McElhinney, known for their detailed coverage of the Gosnell case, stated he died roughly two weeks before the news broke on March 23. Sources from prison and law enforcement indicated he had been moved to a hospital before his death.

The Pennsylvania Department of Corrections officially confirmed he had died, though specifics regarding the date and cause remain undisclosed. In recent years, Gosnell’s health had significantly declined.

Gosnell operated the Women’s Medical Society clinic on Lancaster Avenue in West Philadelphia for years, providing abortions and medications under questionable conditions.

A 2010 raid by multiple agencies, including the DEA and Philadelphia Police, revealed horrific practices and unsanitary environments, such as blood and expired drugs, and fetal remains improperly stored.

The inquiry also linked to the death of Karnamaya Mongar, a patient who succumbed to an overdose administered by unlicensed staff. On January 19, 2011, Gosnell faced numerous charges, including murder and illegal late-term abortions.

Many staff members, including his wife Pearl, were also charged, with most pleading guilty in connection to the case.

Gosnell’s trial commenced on March 18, 2013, featuring testimony from former employees about a gruesome process known as “snipping,” where infants born alive had their spinal cords cut. Evidence included disturbing photographs and medical records that detailed unlawful abortions past the 24-week limit.

On May 13, 2013, the jury found Gosnell guilty of three counts of first-degree murder for the deaths of infants known in court as Baby Boy A, Baby C, and Baby D, alongside involuntary manslaughter in Mongar’s death, several counts of illegal late-term abortions, and numerous violations of informed consent laws.

Despite acquittals and dismissals on some counts, the trial highlighted the atrocious nature of his actions. “He created an assembly line with no regard for these women whatsoever,” remarked Assistant District Attorney Ed Cameron.

Maria V. Gallagher, legislative director for the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation, shared her reflections on Gosnell’s death, emphasizing the substantial devastation he caused in Pennsylvania. She hopes the lessons learned from his horrific reign will not be forgotten.

Gosnell remained incarcerated at SCI Huntingdon until his passing.
