Former press secretary Katie Zacharia is confronting Sean Hannity from Fox News, claiming he caught her off guard with an aggressive interview just before her departure from the Trump administration.
Having spent only five days as Trump’s spokesperson, Zacharia expressed her surprise at Hannity’s hostile questions regarding her legal qualifications, especially since he had defended her earlier that week.
On the ‘Finnerty’ show on Newsmax, she shared her confusion over Hannity’s abrupt shift in tone.
“I’m just as perplexed about what happened specifically with Sean Hannity,” she stated.
Zacharia noted that Hannity’s team had previously discussed having her as a California correspondent for his show.
“We never had a conversation about my educational background,” she remarked, highlighting the unexpected nature of the interrogation.
Her brief time in the White House drew heavy scrutiny for her claims of being a lawyer without passing the California bar exam.
The tension peaked during her appearance on Fox News, when Hannity pressed her on her qualifications, marking a stark contrast to his earlier defense of her.
In another twist, the interview also intensified rumors about whether Hannity’s questioning was pre-approved by someone within the White House. Meanwhile, both Fox News and Hannity have rejected this notion.
Following the interview, Zacharia unfollowed Hannity on social media.
When asked about a return to his program, she emphasized her resilience in challenging TV situations.
“I never shy away from conflict,” Zacharia stated. “I’ve debated some of the most adversarial guests.”
She also expressed her shock, given the rapport she shared with Hannity, describing the hostility as unexpected.
As a result of growing criticism of her performance, Trump suggested she reconsider her position.
“You don’t have to do this if you don’t want to,” she reflected on his advice.
Regardless of her challenging exit, Zacharia affirmed her loyalty to Trump and her willingness to serve him again.
“Absolutely. I would do so in a heartbeat,” she affirmed about potentially returning to the team.
However, she hesitated about wanting her old job back. “If the president asked, I would accept it,” she clarified.
Zacharia also endorsed Fox Business anchor Maria Bartiromo as a strong successor for White House press secretary, praising her toughness and loyalty.
Newsmax’s Rob Finnerty asked former White House Press Secretary Katie Zacharia whether she believes Sean Hannity set her up with the Fox interview.
She didn’t say no.
Zacharia admitted she was “perplexed” by Hannity’s hostility, especially considering that his own team had approached her earlier this year about working for him.
ZACHARIA: “In January, late February, I was asked by Sean Hannity’s team, I got a phone call from them, asking me if I would consider being Sean’s California man on the street.”
“Basically asking Californians what they thought of Gavin Newsom ahead of potentially a presidential run that Gavin Newsom might make.”
“So Sean Hannity’s team, after being on with him a number of times and having a great rapport with Sean, thought that I would be a valuable asset to be continuing a relationship and in the press for him on his show.”
