In a Saturday morning interview with ABC’s Good Morning America, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre asserted that Joe Biden doesn’t need to visit the southern border because he was there last year.
After it was noted that Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas is visiting the southern border on Monday, Jean-Pierre was asked, “Is it time for President Biden to make a visit himself to address these issues?”
Jean-Pierre shot down the suggestion as she shot back, “The president was there last year, he went to El Paso last year.”
“I went with him so he has done that, but he wants to put forth solutions, that’s what the president wants,” Jean-Pierre insisted.
Jean-Pierre explained, “As we talk about these cities across the country that are dealing with an influx of migrants, we have provided one billion dollars to those cities, to those jurisdictions so that they can have extra resources to deal with what they are dealing with right now with the increased influx of migrants.”
As the X account RNC Research, which shared a clip of Jean-Pierre’s interview, pointed out, “That was 363 days ago — Biden’s only trip to the border EVER”
Biden toured El Paso on January 8, 2023, for the first and only border visit of his presidency thus far and he was greeted by Texas Republican Governor Greg Abbott upon his arrival.

On Monday, we reported that encounters with illegal immigrants at the southern border have topped over 300,000 in December.
The more than 302,000 encounters amounted to a record high, according to Fox News’ Griff Jenkins who released the report.
