Judge Orders Sale of Alex Jones’ Infowars to Pay Families of Sandy Hook Victims

Alex Jones will be forced to liquidate assets from his media outlet Infowars to pay over $1 billion owed to families of Sandy Hook victims, according to a report from Bloomberg Law.

The ruling was handed down Wednesday by Judge Maya Guerra Gamble in Austin.

Infowars Assets Placed Under Receiver Control

Under the order, a court-appointed receiver will take over Infowars’ parent company, Free Speech Systems LLC, and oversee the sale of its assets to compensate the families.

Infowars filed for bankruptcy in 2022 after Jones was ordered to pay nearly $1.5 billion in defamation damages.

The families sued Jones after he falsely claimed the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre — which killed 26 people — was a staged hoax.

Jones later withdrew the claims and issued a public apology.

Infowars Studio Could Shut Down

The judge’s order could mean the shutdown of Infowars’ Austin studio in the coming days, with the brand and its assets auctioned off.

The satirical news outlet The Onion has already signaled interest in buying Infowars to repurpose it as a parody website. “We’re working on it,” Onion CEO Ben Collins wrote on social media.

Jones Vows to Continue Broadcasting

Despite the ruling, Jones insisted Thursday that he will continue to broadcast. “

People want to hear this show. I will continue on with the network. They can harass me forever. … And they won’t get me off the air,” he said.

Families’ Attorneys Celebrate Progress

An attorney for some of the families praised the ruling, saying:

“Today’s order brings us a critically important step closer to achieving the goal that the Connecticut families have spent years fighting for: holding Alex Jones accountable for years of harm.”
