Former President Joe Biden raised concern over Labor Day weekend after he was seen in Delaware with a noticeable gash on his head while leaving a church in Rehoboth Beach.
Footage posted to social media showed the 82-year-old with a red wound across his forehead, partly hidden by his hair.
Recent Surgery
Biden’s representatives confirmed he recently underwent Mohs surgery, a procedure used to remove skin cancer by cutting thin layers of tissue until no cancer cells remain.
The procedure removes thin layers of skin one at a time, preserving the surrounding healthy tissue, until all cancerous cells are eliminated, according to the Mayo Clinic.
Fred Karger, who filmed the footage, said the mark looked fresh.
“It looks to me like someone who had several basal cells, skin cancers removed from his head,” he told Inside Edition.
Health Concerns
Biden has a history of skin cancer treatment.
In February 2023, doctors removed a cancerous lesion from his chest that was identified as basal cell carcinoma.
In May 2024, he was diagnosed with Stage 4 prostate cancer that had spread to his bones.
Despite this, his physician, Dr. Kevin O’Connor, declared him “fit to serve” after a Walter Reed examination in February 2024.
Ongoing Questions
News of Biden’s advanced cancer diagnosis prompted criticism that his administration and advisers concealed the extent of his health issues.
The former president is still undergoing treatment.
