Ghislaine Maxwell, the convicted sex trafficker and longtime associate of Jeffrey Epstein, is “not suicidal in the least”, according to Jessica Watkins, a fellow inmate and January 6 defendant, who recently shared a prison dorm with her in FMC Tallahassee, a women’s federal facility in Florida.
Watkins, a transgender member of the Oath Keepers militia group, served time for her role in the January 6 Capitol riot and told the Daily Mail she wanted to speak out ahead of any new narrative building around Maxwell, whose case is back in the spotlight amid renewed focus on Epstein’s alleged client list.
“She mostly kept to herself,” Watkins said. “It’s a big bay full of bunk beds, not individual cells… I walked by and recognized her from the news.”
Maxwell on Epstein: “The DOJ had no interest… until after Jeffrey died”
Watkins said the two spoke occasionally during exercise time in the prison yard. While Maxwell never went into detail about her case, she once referenced Epstein.
“She did say that the DOJ had no interest in her until after—her exact words—‘until after Jeffrey,’ then she paused and said ‘died.’”
Epstein allegedly committed suicide in a Manhattan jail in 2019, though speculation has persisted that he may have been silenced to protect others with ties to his trafficking network.
Maxwell is serving a 20-year sentence following her 2022 conviction for procuring underage girls for Epstein and his associates.
Maxwell Petitions SCOTUS, Denied Review
As Epstein-related court files resurface, Maxwell recently filed a petition with the Supreme Court, claiming she was shielded from prosecution under the 2007 non-prosecution agreement Epstein signed with federal prosecutors in Florida.
The Department of Justice rejected the claim, with Solicitor General D. John Sauer writing:
“That contention is incorrect, and petitioner does not show that it would succeed in any court of appeals.”
Calls for Maxwell to Testify
Some members of Congress have floated the idea of Maxwell testifying publicly before a congressional committee. According to a Daily Mail source close to Maxwell:
“Despite the rumors, Ghislaine was never offered any kind of plea deal. She would be more than happy to sit before Congress and tell her story.”
“No one from the government has ever asked her to share what she knows. She remains the only person jailed in connection to Epstein and she would welcome the chance to tell the American public the truth.”
