Iran’s security chief recently delivered a grave admonition to President Donald Trump, urging him to be wary of threats to his safety after Trump remarked that Iran’s newly appointed supreme leader might not “live in peace.”
This warning arises as Trump intensifies his rhetoric concerning Iran’s influence in the Strait of Hormuz and its recent leadership changes. He has cautioned the nation that it could face severe repercussions should it continue its obstruction of tanker traffic.
Trump has reiterated that the Strait of Hormuz represents a crucial boundary, warning Iran of “death, fire, and fury” should it persist in its blockade.
He explicitly criticized Iran’s newly installed supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, expressing dissatisfaction with the appointment and predicting troubling times ahead for the cleric.
In response, Iran’s security chief, Ali Larijani, dismissed Trump’s statements, issuing a stark warning of his own.
Larijani asserted, “Iran is not intimidated by your hollow threats,” before advising Trump to exercise caution. He ominously warned, “Be careful not to be eliminated!”
This escalated rhetoric is set against a backdrop of U.S. worries regarding Iranian assassination plots. A recent conviction involved a Pakistani national trained by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, linked to a scheme aimed at Trump during the upcoming presidential campaign.
The individual, Asif Merchant, was found guilty of conspiracy for an alleged assassination attempt, which reportedly stemmed from retaliatory motives for the 2020 U.S. drone strike that killed Iranian General Qasem Soleimani during Trump’s presidency.
Merchant had traveled to the U.S. after training in Iran, reportedly plotting political assassinations, including targeting Trump. His contact with an informant helped expose the plan, leading to his arrest.
Meanwhile, Trump remains undeterred, asserting via a Truth Social post that any attempt by Iran to disrupt oil transportation through the Strait of Hormuz will provoke a sharply intensified U.S. military response.
He declared, “If Iran does anything that stops the flow of oil within the Strait of Hormuz, they will be hit by the United States of America twenty times harder than they have been hit thus far.”
Iran has countered with threats of expanding the conflict, expressing its readiness to retaliate as long as necessary. This standoff combines military escalation, crucial global economic interests, and personal threats. Trump is adamant that Iran will face unprecedented consequences, while Iran’s leadership warns, “Be careful not to be eliminated!”
