Investigators swarmed the Arizona home of Nancy Guthrie on Wednesday, returning to the apparent crime scene as authorities intensify efforts to unravel the high-profile disappearance.
Video posted by Tucson KVOA-TV reporter Monica Garcia showed federal and local investigators moving through the property in gloves, carrying boxes believed to contain evidence. In one clip, a Customs and Border Protection agent is seen outside the home with a K-9 trained to detect drugs, explosives and missing persons.
The renewed activity came as Savannah Guthrie, the longtime “TODAY” show anchor, issued an emotional public plea to whoever took her mother, asking for proof that Nancy Guthrie is still alive. Savannah said the family is aware of an alleged ransom letter demanding payment in exchange for her mother’s release and made clear they are willing to communicate with the captors.
Investigators also visited the Tucson home of Savannah Guthrie’s sister, Annie Guthrie, and Annie’s husband, Tommaso Cioni, on Wednesday. Images from the scene showed federal agents carrying equipment believed to be used in digital forensics.
One agent was photographed with a bag containing what appeared to be a Cellebrite Universal Forensic Extraction Device, a tool commonly used by law enforcement to access data from smartphones, SIM cards and other digital storage, including encrypted and deleted material.
The stepped-up activity underscores the seriousness of the investigation, which now involves both federal and local authorities. Despite the visible escalation, law enforcement officials have not identified any suspects or persons of interest.
Nancy Guthrie vanished from her Arizona home over the weekend under what authorities have described as suspicious circumstances. Investigators have said she did not leave on her own and that evidence at the scene prompted them to treat the residence as a crime scene.
As of Wednesday night, the case remained wide open, with detectives chasing down leads, analyzing physical and digital evidence, and urging anyone with information to come forward.
