Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker appeared on NBC’s Meet The Press Sunday, signaling he may be eyeing a run for the 2028 Democratic presidential nomination.
During an interview with host Kristen Welker, Pritzker was pressed on his political ambitions after discussing his efforts to aid Texas Democrats who fled their state to block GOP-led redistricting.

“I Can’t Rule Anything Out”
When asked directly if he would rule out a presidential campaign in 2028, Pritzker replied:
“I’m focused on running for reelection as governor of the state of Illinois… But you don’t rule it out? I can’t rule anything out.”
Pritzker emphasized his Democratic Party priorities — expanding government-run healthcare, increasing education spending, and opposing what he called “MAGA Republicans.”
Hyatt Hotel Heir With Deep Pockets
Pritzker, whose family owns the Hyatt hotel empire, downplayed concerns about his immense personal wealth, claiming “how much money you have doesn’t determine what your values are.”
Critics note that his billionaire status would make him one of the most financially powerful candidates in the race if he chooses to run, capable of self-funding a massive national campaign.
Crowded 2028 Democrat Field Looming
If Pritzker jumps in, he would join a growing list of Democrats already signaling interest in a 2028 bid, including:
Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear
Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz
Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN)
Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro
Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer
Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ)
Former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg
