An illegal alien from Honduras, Noelia Saray Martinez-Avila, 30, has been charged in connection with a deadly crash that killed two teenagers in Dane County, Wisconsin. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has since lodged a detainer for her removal from the U.S.
On July 20, Martinez-Avila was allegedly driving the wrong way on I-90 when her Chevrolet Suburban collided head-on with a Volkswagen Tiguan carrying 18-year-old Hallie Helgeson and 19-year-old Brady Heiling.

Heiling was airlifted to the hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.
Martinez-Avila’s Criminal History and Charges
According to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Martinez-Avila had a prior 2020 conviction for drunk driving and was ordered to install an ignition interlock device in her vehicle. Authorities say the device was not installed at the time of the crash.
She now faces multiple charges, including:
-
Homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle
-
Operating a vehicle while intoxicated and causing death
-
Driving with a revoked license

ICE Detainer and Immigration Status
ICE confirmed Martinez-Avila is an illegal alien from Honduras and issued a detainer for her arrest and deportation. Assistant DHS Secretary Tricia McLaughlin criticized Dane County’s sanctuary policies, which historically do not honor ICE detainers, potentially allowing criminal aliens to be released back into the community.
“These precious victims will not be forgotten, and we will fight for justice,” McLaughlin said.
