House Republicans are demanding Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., be stripped of her committee seats.
The move follows her controversial comments about Charlie Kirk after his assassination last week.
Carter’s Resolution
Rep. Buddy Carter, R-Ga., introduced a resolution Monday.

Buddy Carter
It would remove Omar from the House Budget Committee and the Education and Workforce Committee.
Carter accused Omar of using rhetoric that disrespected Kirk’s legacy.
Carter said Omar’s remarks were “disgusting.”
He called Kirk “a God-fearing, honorable man.”
He said “committees are for serious lawmakers, not hate-spewing politicians.”
Mace’s Measure
Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., filed a separate resolution.

Her measure would censure Omar and strip her committee posts.
It cited Omar reposting a video calling Kirk a “stochastic terrorist.”
House Response
Speaker Mike Johnson said he has not reviewed the resolutions.

He told Axios leadership would “have to talk about it.”
Mace said she may force a vote by week’s end.
Omar’s Interview
Omar spoke with progressive outlet Zeteo after Kirk’s death.
She said Kirk had “downplayed slavery” and opposed Juneteenth.
She dismissed the idea that he only wanted civil debate.
“There is nothing more effed up than to pretend his words have not been recorded,” Omar said.
She added Republicans attacking Democrats were “full of s—.”

Amid backlash, Omar posted on X.
She wrote that she condemned Kirk’s murder multiple times.
“My heart breaks for his wife and children,” she said.
A spokesperson said Omar was one of the first to condemn Kirk’s killing.
They said she offered prayers for his wife and children.
They also accused Republicans of unfairly targeting legislators of color.
