Hunter Biden refused to apologize to First Lady Melania Trump after she demanded a retraction of what her attorneys called “defamatory” and “extremely salacious” statements linking her to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
The dispute stems from comments Biden made during an interview on the “Channel 5” YouTube series with Andrew Callaghan earlier this month.
Biden Doubles Down After $1 Billion Lawsuit Threat
In the Aug. 5 interview, Biden repeated a false claim — originally pushed by author Michael Wolff — that Epstein introduced Melania Trump to Donald Trump.
The First Lady’s attorney, Alejandro Brito, sent Biden a letter demanding a retraction, apology, and warning of a $1 billion defamation lawsuit if he refused.
Biden’s response was blunt: “F** that. That’s not gonna happen.”* Callaghan quipped, “It’s lawsuit time!”
In a follow-up episode released Thursday, Biden doubled down, dismissing the legal threat as a “designed distraction” and labeling the Trumps as “bullies.”
Challenges Trumps to Deposition
Biden taunted the First Couple, saying: “If they’d like to sit down for a deposition and clarify the nature of their relationship between Jeffrey Epstein and the president and first lady… I’m more than happy to provide them with a platform.”
He also mocked Donald Trump Jr. for previously calling for the release of the “Epstein List” but not commenting on this dispute, claiming MAGA supporters are guilty of “projection or confession.”
False Claim Origin and Retractions
Biden’s remarks were based on Wolff’s July 26 podcast claim that Epstein and Donald Trump were connected through a “model agent” who introduced Melania.
The Daily Beast published the claim but retracted it and issued an apology after Melania’s attorney intervened. Democratic strategist James Carville also apologized after repeating it on his podcast.
Melania Trump has made clear she first met Donald Trump in 1998 at a New York party hosted by former modeling agent Paolo Zampolli. The couple married in 2005.
Lawyer: Comments Caused “Overwhelming Harm”
In her letter, Melania’s lawyer called Biden’s comments harmful to her reputation and finances. “Extremely salacious,” the letter read, warning that legal action would be taken if he refused to retract.
