Former First Son Hunter Biden revealed that he has had a years-running feud with CNN’s Jake Tapper during a rare interview with Breaker on Wednesday.
Tapper has been touring the media circuit in order to promote his new book, “Original Sin: President Biden’s Decline, Its Cover-Up, and his Disastrous Choice To Run Again.” The book, which Tapper co-authored with Axios’ Alex Thompson, shares new details on the extent of the former president’s decline and efforts taken to cover up the problem during his presidency.
The book has received a mix response, as Tapper himself has been accused of engaging in the cover-up himself. In one example, an irate Tapper lashed out at former Republican National Committee co-chair for highlighting Biden’s “cognitive decline” in a 2020 interview.
Hunter Biden counts himself among those who question Tapper’s sincerity, the disgraced First Son revealed in a rare interview with New York-based outlet Breaker News. In one instance, Hunter recalled a time he told the CNN anchor to “go f**k” himself after Tapper hounded Hunter for comment following the death of his brother, Beau.
“It would be impossible to forget or misremember something that upsetting and out of line during one of the toughest moments of my life,” Hunter, 55, told Breaker on Wednesday. “It happened. I was furious.”
The incident allegedly occurred when Tapper called Hunter as his brother was dying of brain cancer at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in 2015, Breaker reported, citing multiple sources. Tapper soon followed up on a blocked number, at which point the former president’s son issued a blunt response; “Go f**k yourself, Jake.”
The two men encountered each other a few years later at the 2018 Super Bowl in Minneapolis, where multiple sources reported on an intense encounter between them. From there, rumors of a feud were spawned and persisted for years until Hunter confirmed them on Wednesday.
Several witnesses told Puck at the time that they saw Hunter aggressively put his arms around Tapper’s shoulders before telling him that “I would knock you out” if they weren’t in a public setting. The alleged threat was made in response to Tapper’s barrage of phone calls a few years earlier, something the CNN host vehemently denies.
“This is a patently false lie,” Tapper said in a statement. “At no point in my life have I ever called Hunter Biden — I’ve never even had his phone number — and I would never have contacted a person’s immediate family during such a challenging and personal time.”
He did confirm the Super Bowl altercation, however, but suggested the former First Son had confronted him over what were perceived as negative headlines from CNN surrounding his ongoing divorce and drug use.
“Hunter did once confront me at a Super Bowl party, but it was over an unrelated issue — coverage he wrongly believed I had done regarding divorce allegations of drug use and using prostitutes, which I actually had never done,” Tapper told Breaker.
A spokesperson for Tapper added: “The idea that Jake could do something so heartless — and yet the Bidens would subsequently offer him multiple sit-down interviews as well as agree to him moderating the debate, all without anyone hearing about it until now — completely defies logic.”
The back-and-forth comes just a day after Tapper described Hunter Biden as “sleazy” and “demonstrably unethical” during his ongoing book tour. During an appearance on Katie Couric’s “Next Question” podcast, Tapper was asked about Hunter’s role in the Biden family.
“I think Hunter was driving the decision-making for the family in a way that people — he was almost like a chief of staff of the family,” the CNN host said. “It’s bizarre because I think he is provably demonstrably unethical, sleazy, and prone to horrible decisions.”
The CNN host went on to point to Hunter’s numerous personal and criminal dealings.
“Well, I mean, I just look at the record. I mean, after his brother died, he cheated on his wife with his brother’s widow and then got her addicted to crack. That’s just one thing I could say. I mean, I don’t have a lot of personal regard for him, and just based on having nothing to do with — I barely have ever met him. I’ve met him like once or twice.”
