Hunter Biden has quietly taken on a new role with BASTA Universal, a Southern California nonprofit that advocates for tenants’ rights and works to prevent homelessness, especially for illegal immigrants, according to a recent interview posted Tuesday.
Speaking on the Channel 5 podcast with Andrew Callaghan, the president’s son revealed he is now serving as Director of Development for BASTA Universal, Inc., a spin-off organization of BASTA, which primarily serves low-income and illegal tenants in southern Los Angeles.
Hunter: “There’s Enormous Opportunity to Be of Service”
“I just think there is such an opportunity to be of service right now,” Biden told Callaghan.
“A lot of people are getting the s— beat out of them out there, right here in LA.”
Biden explained that his work with BASTA Universal focuses on helping vulnerable residents avoid eviction, which he sees as a key part of the homelessness prevention pipeline.
“If you can keep someone in their apartment or their home, you’re obviously also keeping someone off the street.”
He emphasized the group’s mission to represent illegal tenants, something he claimed no other organization in Southern California does, while adding that BASTA Universal does not accept federal funding.
Supporting Illegal Immigrants
Biden defended the group’s support of illegal immigrants, referencing El Salvadoran and Ukrainian migrants who he says face housing instability due to fears of ICE enforcement or lack of work opportunities.
“It’s not just El Salvadoran immigrants, it’s Ukrainian immigrants that came here under duress… and find it really hard to find work because of the fear of employers.”
Organization Confirms Hiring, Defends Role
In a statement to Fox News Digital, Daniel Bramzon, Director of Strategy for BASTA Universal, confirmed Biden’s role:
“Mr. Biden is qualified for this role… he is smart, has experience in networking, and cares about the population we are trying to help.”
Bramzon added that Biden sought out the position himself, and the organization saw it as an opportunity to bring more attention to tenants’ rights, while distancing itself from Biden’s political baggage:
“We understand that some folks may have different opinions about Mr. Biden, but none of the politics or other gossip really involves BASTA Universal or his work here.”
About BASTA Universal
BASTA Universal is a legal advocacy nonprofit that assists low-income tenants, often representing clients in eviction court, and fighting for expanded tenant protections, often in defiance of immigration enforcement policies.
The original BASTA group has a long history of left-leaning activism in housing policy, with strong ties to California’s tenant rights movement.
