Grunge Rock Star Courtney Love: ‘Taylor Swift Is Not Important, She’s Not Interesting as an Artist’

In a recent interview with The Standard, a British publication, Courtney Love, the ex-lead vocalist of the multi-platinum band Hole and widow of Kurt Cobain, didn’t hold back in criticizing several pop divas, such as Madonna and Lana del Rey. Love made it clear, in her typically straightforward manner, that she doesn’t think highly of them.

Love didn’t hold back her harshest comments for Swift — the woke billionaire pop icon who was recently honored as TIME’s Person of the Year and is constantly making news with her relationship with NFL star Travis Kelce.

“Taylor is not important,” Love said. “She might be a safe space for girls, and she’s probably the Madonna of now, but she’s not interesting as an artist,” she added.

Love’s beef with Madonna seems to be more personal.

“I don’t like her and she doesn’t like me,” she told the newspaper.

“I loved Desperately Seeking Susan, but for the city of New York as much as her,” Love added.

“As for Lana de Rey, ‘I haven’t liked Lana since she covered a John Denver song, and I think she should really take seven years off,” Courtney said.

Love was promoting her new BBC radio show titled “Courtney Love’s Women,” where the former lead singer of Hole shares music by female artists who have influenced her over the years.

Her criticism of Taylor Swift coincides with Swift’s skyrocketing media presence following her recognition as People magazine’s 2023 Person of the Year.

Swift also gained attention in NFL circles, even appearing at the Super Bowl in January, due to her relationship with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.

Swift has not yet shown her support behind a presidential candidate for the 2024 election, after endorsing Joe Biden back in 2020.

The singer likely needs to consider the potential harm to her personal brand if she were to endorse Biden again, especially given the 81-year-old president’s plummeting popularity, particularly among young Democrats, many of whom have become disillusioned with his presidency.

In her interview with The Standard, Courtney Love tackled her enduring reputation as a force of nature.

“People used to say that I was so difficult,” Love said.

“They said I was disagreeable. Yes, I am completely disagreeable and I’m never going to apologise for that. I always wanted to be known as a bitch,” she added.

“Being liked was never my thing. Kurt [Cobain] wanted to be liked but not me. He was able to hide behind me, but then I got hated. Then Kurt died, and the hatred towards me reached a completely new level. I did not plan for that,” she continued.

“I’m all for taking my wiener out on stage, like Jim Morrison did. If I had a wiener and I was drunk enough, I would have totally taken it out, just like Jim. I had a bitch capacity and I was cool with not being liked. I saw Bob Dylan in Don’t Look Back and he didn’t want to be liked and I thought, yeah, I want to be like that,” Love concluded.
