A recent survey from Emerson College Polling/KLFY News 10 reveals that Sen. Bill Cassidy is standing in third place in the Republican primary race for the U.S. Senate in Louisiana. He is being outpaced by state Treasurer John Fleming and Rep. Julia Letlow.
In this poll, 28% of likely GOP primary voters support Fleming, with Letlow close behind at 27%. Cassidy lags at 21%, while 22% are still undecided.
According to Spencer Kimball, executive director of Emerson College Polling, the current trajectories suggest that a June runoff may be necessary, as no candidate appears poised to secure the required 50% of votes.
Kimball noted that Fleming tends to perform better among male voters, leading Letlow 36% to 27%, while Cassidy garners only 20% from this demographic. Female voters divide their support more evenly, with Letlow at 27%, Cassidy at 23%, and Fleming at 21%.

In terms of age demographics, younger voters under 40 show a preference for Cassidy at 30%, followed by Letlow at 21% and Fleming at 16%. For those in their 40s and 50s, the competition is tighter, with Fleming at 28%, Letlow at 24%, and Cassidy at 23%. Among voters aged over 60, Fleming holds a lead with 32%, trailing Letlow, who has 31%, while Cassidy is significantly lower at 16%.
Furthermore, candidate favorability ratings indicate that Cassidy struggles with a 49% unfavorable score compared to a mere 30% favorability. In contrast, Letlow has a 40% favorable rating, while Fleming holds a 42% favorable rating with just 15% unfavorable.
When asked who is likely to support the agenda of the Trump administration, 41% of respondents indicated Letlow, while 26% chose Fleming and 21% selected Cassidy. Ten percent believed none of the candidates would align with Trump’s goals.
Top concerns among voters prioritize the economy at 43%, followed by crime at 16%, and education at 10%. Other issues include healthcare at 9%, immigration at 8%, and threats to democracy at 5%.
On the topic of carbon capture, 34% of respondents view it negatively for Louisiana, with only 17% seeing it positively; 49% remained uncertain about its implications.
The Emerson College Polling Louisiana survey was conducted from April 24-26, 2026, with a sample of 500 likely Republican primary voters and a credibility interval of plus or minus 4.3 percentage points. The survey was sponsored by KLFY/Nexstar Media.
