Glenn Beck said Friday he believes there may be sinister forces at play around President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration, offering a chilling theory for the sudden announcement that most of the ceremony will now take place indoors.
The Blaze commentator reacted to Trump’s notice earlier in the day that his team will begin preparing for a swearing-in ceremony inside the Capitol rotunda. Trump chalked the change up to inclement weather — temperatures are expected to be in the low 20s next Monday — but given his past assassination attempts, the real reason could relate to his personal safety, Beck posited.
“I think this is why they’re moving the inauguration and all of the people that were going to Washington to stand out in the cold to witness it inside. They’re moving all of the dignitaries inside, where it will be a private event, and one of the stadiums there, inside, they’re moving all of them inside and saying ‘don’t show up at the Capitol, show up at this arena,’” Beck explained.
In his post on Truth Social, President-elect Trump announced that his team would commandeer the Capitol One Arena to serve as a spillover venue for those who would otherwise gather on the Capitol building’s open lawn to witness him take the oath of office.
“I don’t want to see people hurt, or injured, in any way. It is dangerous conditions for the tens of thousands of Law Enforcement, First Responders, Police K9s and even horses, and hundreds of thousands of supporters that will be outside for many hours on the 20th (In any event, if you decide to come, dress warmly!),” Trump posted.
“We will open Capital One Arena on Monday for LIVE viewing of this Historic event, and to host the Presidential Parade. I will join the crowd at Capital One, after my Swearing In,” he added.
The part left unsaid, Beck went on, is the possibility of another attack.
“I think these guys are under such threat because, this is Jason Bourne stuff. Look, they’re changing the power structure in everything,” said the conservative author.
“Do you know how much money is going to be lost because of Donald Trump? Do you know how much power is going to be lost because of Donald Trump and all of his surrogates?”
The quadrennial inauguration takes place on January 20th following the presidential election, and it should come as no surprise that Washington, D.C., will be a bitterly cold place to be. But that hasn’t stopped every presidential inauguration going back to Ronald Reagan from pushing through it, Beck went on.
During Reagan’s 1985 swearing-in, D.C. temps dipped to 7 degrees with a windchill of -25. Monday’s weather will be comparably warmer.
“Does that make sense to you that they’re moving it because of the cold?” Beck asked his viewers. “I will tell you: he’s hired his own private security company, and he’s not leaving it to the Secret Service. Is it to keep people safe from the weather, or just to keep people safe? One way or another, I’m glad that they’re going to be safe.”
Earlier on Friday, news broke that Trump is expected to hire Sean Curran to lead the U.S. Secret Service. Curran, who has served as the head of Trump’s protective detail since he left office, was by his side as he was shot in July. Since then, he has helped conduct a top-to-bottom review of the detachment’s shortcomings, especially since it was revealed that some of the agents on Trump’s detail were walking away from their posts or allowing unknown individuals to sneak into his speeches.

Why is Trump moving his inauguration ceremony indoors? They don’t cancel the Macy’s Day Parade or football games when it’s cold. Is it to keep people safe from the weather, or just to keep people safe? Either way, I’m glad people WILL be safe. pic.twitter.com/PIzGdVg6v2
