Geraldo Rivera has astounded his liberal following by backing President Trump’s proposal for a new White House ballroom. He claims that the recent assassination attempt underscores the serious security risks associated with the traditional Washington Hilton gathering.
In a piece titled Build the Ballroom, Rivera commended Trump for their calm demeanor after what he described as a third failed assassination attempt during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. This chaotic incident prompted evacuations.
“Trump deserves a Purple Heart for being wounded in action. A third would-be assassin attempted but failed to kill him Saturday night,” Rivera asserted. “Thankfully this time neither the President nor any of the attendees was hurt.”
According to Rivera, Trump insisted on continuing the evening once he was assured of his safety.
“Trump wanted to show to go on because he has balls. He, the first lady, and everyone else is safe. Someone is in custody. Trump wanted the show to go on because he doesn’t want the bad guys to win.”
He identified the suspect, “shortly named Cole Allen, a 31-year-old teacher from California,” alleging that minutes prior to the assault, Allen had dispatched a manifesto to his family.

Rivera didn’t shy away from sharing a political angle, expressing relief that the assailant was not affiliated with the groups often targeted by activists.
“Forget the assailant. Still, unnerving that a punk managed to penetrate our formidable security apparatus. Questions to answer, but thankfully all are safe.”
The seasoned television commentator shared personal anecdotes about attending the WHCA dinner, dubbed the “Nerd Prom.” He reminisced about dining amongst notable guests in previous years.

“My wife Erica and I have attended at least a half dozen of these grand events. Playfully called The Nerd Prom, the White House Correspondents Dinner gives journalists and celebrity guests a chance to mingle with presidents and potentates.”
He reflected on the 2011 dinner, recalling when Obama mocked Trump during the birther controversy.
“We were there in 2011 when my old pal Donald Trump was cruelly ridiculed by Barack Obama for his then just announced presidential ambitions.”
Rivera also noted CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer’s composure during the tumultuous events.
“CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer shaken but still coolly reporting the extraordinary peril the president and cabinet survived unscathed. A shooter inside one of the most secure areas on earth. It is a stunning event.”
Ultimately, Rivera reiterated a point Trump has emphasized for months: the Hilton ballroom is outdated, oversized, and challenging to secure, particularly when the entire federal leadership gathers.

He remarked on the grim implications if the shooter had succeeded, highlighting the presence of virtually the entire Cabinet that night.
Such a potential tragedy raised significant concerns about the safety of key leaders, from the President and First Lady to Vice President J.D. Vance, House Speaker Mike Johnson, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, and Secretary of War Pete Hegseth.

These considerations are why Rivera asserts that Trump’s initiative for a grand White House ballroom is crucial, even amidst legal hurdles.
“Build the ballroom. I felt I was watching Designated Survivor. Virtually the entire line of presidential succession was in that lame Hilton space. Way too freaky dangerous. Build the Ballroom.”
