A Georgia man is in federal custody after allegedly threatening to assassinate President Donald Trump during a TikTok livestream late last month.
The Justice Department says 29-year-old Jauan Rashun Porter of Rome, Georgia, joined a July 26 livestream discussing the Trump administration and its “Alligator Alcatraz” facility used to detain illegal aliens.
According to prosecutors, Porter posted in the chat: “So there’s only one way to make America great and that is putting a bullet in between Trump’s eyes.”
Explicit Threats and Defiance
Porter allegedly continued making violent threats for several minutes:
“I’m gonna kill Donald Trump. I’m gonna put a 7.62 bullet inside his forehead.”
“I’m gonna watch him bleed out and I’m gonna watch him die. I’m gonna do that.”
When other viewers warned him the Secret Service could show up at his door, Porter allegedly responded, “I’m gonna kill them too.”
Weapons and Explosives Found
The threats prompted a joint response from the U.S. Secret Service, local police, and state authorities. A search of Porter’s apartment turned up pistol ammunition, two pipes, and Tannerite — a powerful explosive.
Porter has an extensive criminal history, including convictions for terroristic threats, battery, drug possession, possession of a firearm by a felon, domestic violence, and mutiny in a penal institution. He is currently on probation.
Facing Federal Charges
Porter is charged with making threats against the President and will face a detention hearing on August 12.
“The allegations against Porter are serious and required a swift, decisive, and collaborative response,” said U.S. Attorney Theodore Hertzberg. “We do not tolerate threats against public officials or law enforcement officers, and Porter will now face the consequences of his actions.”
Comes After Two Recent Attempts on Trump’s Life
The threats follow two recent assassination attempts on President Trump. In July 2024, a shooter at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, grazed Trump’s ear with a bullet, killing audience member Corey Comperatore and seriously injuring two others.
Weeks later, Trump was targeted again while golfing in Florida, when an armed suspect hid in the bushes with a rifle before being fired upon and captured by police.
