A fugitive named Mike King, sought for impersonating a law enforcement official, was killed during a standoff with Dallas SWAT units. Authorities have not revealed his real name, but he was associated with U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) as part of her security team.
King ran Off Duty Police Services, a platform connecting off-duty officers with job opportunities, presenting himself as a legitimate law enforcement agent to recruit participants. His operations included staffing at banks and hotels, drawing from both police officers and civilians alike.
However, investigators found that King had a pattern of using fake identities and impersonating police. He drove a vehicle resembling an unmarked police car and utilized stolen license plates taken from cars outside a military recruitment center. Some officers, unaware of his fraudulent activities, accepted jobs through his platform, as stated in a report by Reuters.
Consequently, multiple warrants were issued for his arrest for impersonation.
On Friday, the Dallas Police fugitive unit located King. He fled into a parking garage at Children’s Medical Center, where he barricaded himself inside a vehicle.
SWAT teams were called in and used tear gas to drive him out. Allegedly armed, King emerged with a firearm aimed at the officers, resulting in them firing at him. He was declared dead at the scene.

King had been associated with Rep. Crockett since at least the previous year, providing security services during her congressional duties in Washington and Texas.
Photographs confirm King’s presence during Crockett’s campaign for the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate in Texas, a race she ultimately lost to James Talarico.
Financial records show that Crockett compensated a Mike King for his security services as recently as 2025. Colleagues noted that he had a significant role within her security detail, managing teams at several locations including downtown hotels and his local church, as reported by New York Post.
It remains uncertain how thoroughly background checks were executed prior to his hiring or whether her team was aware of his ongoing legal troubles.
As of now, the congresswoman’s office has not made any public statements regarding the incident.
