Four Republican Congressmen voted against a historic impeachment effort against Homeland Secretary Alejandro Majorkas, temporarily scuttling the effort to impeach the first Cabinet Secretary in over 150 years.
Three of the GOP congressmen voted “no” straight up — Ken Buck of Colorado and Tom McClintock of California, and Mike Gallagher of Wisconsin — but one Congressman actually flipped his vote from ‘yes’ to ‘no’ in order to raise the possibility of bringing back the impeachment resolution under a Motion to Reconsider: Blake Moore of Utah.
A 4th Republican Blake Moore (UT) flipped to No at the end. The reason he did it was NOT because he opposed it. It was so Republicans could bring up a Motion to Reconsider so they could bring the impeachment resolution back up again for a later vote.

The final vote count was 216-214, thereby causing the vote to fail.
Another Congressman, Steve Scalise of Louisiana, missed the vote due to cancer treatments.
The two articles of impeachment against Mayorkas: Refusal to Comply with the Law and Breach of Public Trust.
Two Republicans who rejected impeachment, Reps. Ken Buck of Colorado and Tom McClintock of California, have long questioned Mayorkas’ case, particularly whether the two articles against him satisfied the constitutional standard for impeachment.
McClintock has also frequently warned that impeaching Mayorkas would set a disturbing precedent that may be misused by future Congresses by implying that an official can be impeached if they are perceived to be failing at their job.
Mayorkas’ impeachment was not likely to proceed in the Senate. Democrats and party-aligned members control the Senate barely, making it difficult for any impeachment to pass the high bar of 67 votes required for conviction.
Senators from both parties have frequently stated that they are particularly opposed to Mayorkas’ impeachment.
Republicans intend to bring the legislation back to the floor when House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA), who is receiving cancer treatment, is able to attend.
“House Republicans fully intend to bring Articles of Impeachment against Secretary Mayorkas back to the floor when we have the votes for passage,” Speaker Mike Johnson’s spokesperson said on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.
Republicans have accused Mayorkas of a “willful and systemic refusal to comply with the law,” arguing that he violated immigration rules by failing to hold enough migrants.
On Tuesday, President Joe Biden attempted to blame the worsening border crisis during his presidency on his predecessor Donald Trump.
Biden: “The only reason the border is not secure is Donald Trump.”
Illegal border encounters:
2023: 2,476,000
2022: 2,379,000
2021: 1,735,000
2020: 400,000— End Wokeness (@EndWokeness) February 6, 2024
“The only reason the border is not secure is Donald Trump,” Biden claimed.
Meanwhile, the popular X account End Wokeness pointed out that official numbers for illegal border encounters have gone up by six hundred percent per year since Biden took office.
What a friggin disgrace! They are bought and paid for by the DemonRATS. These 3 RINOs, Tom McClintock (CA), Ken Buck (CO), and Mike Gallagher (WI), must immediately resign! They are a disgrace to America and the Republican Party.
Of course they would be free to run for congress as the DemonRATS they truly are.
This is how the Republic falls.
Treason from within!
Don’t we all know ‘Republicans’ merely wear red ties instead of blue. That’s as ‘Republican’ as they are now.
