The former Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich has praised President Donald Trump for his crime-fighting efforts in Chicago after figures show a dramatic drop in many major crimes categories since the president decided to inundate the city with federal law enforcement resources
Blagojevich stated on Newsmax’s “ Weekend Report” that President Trump had dramatically reduced crime rates. He cited a reduction of 35 percent in shootings, and nearly 50 percent in carjackings.
The reduction will primarily affect black residents of the city. Many have suffered from the violent crime epidemic that has plagued the city for years. Black Americans are also the largest group of Chicago residents.
Blagojevich, who was pardoned after a controversial conviction for attempting to sell a state Senate seat when President Barack Obama won the election, also targeted current Illinois Governor JB Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson as well as other prominent Democrats. Blagojevich accused the Democrats of submitting to “the left-wing socialist communist block of the Democratic Party”, which demands that they always oppose the President.
Pritzker, in particular, was “unfit” to serve as an elected official, because he focused primarily on national issues before a possible presidential campaign. He said that, had Trump offered to help Chicago while he was in office, he wouldn’t have condemned Trump but would instead thanked him.
Blaojevich, who was convicted in 2011 of charges relating to public corruption and sentenced for 14 years federal prison, was impeached. The President Donald Trump commuted the sentence in 2020 after he served 8 years.
Blagojevich said that during a recent interview on The Joe Rogan Experience he had never stopped claiming his innocence. Instead, he insists he was set up by Democratic Party leaders to protect Barack Obama.
Blagojevich claims that he was asked by a top-ranking Democratic Party Labor ally, to nominate Jarrett as the Obama’s closest ally for the vacant president seat. The former governor says he refused, and was instead framed to hide the illegal conduct of Obama’s staff, which led to his conviction.
Blagojevich is linked with a possible Senate run to replace retiring Dick Durbin as a Republican. He has not yet publicly announced a candidacy.
