First Lady Melania Sends Letter to Putin About Abducted Children

First Lady Melania Trump wrote a “peace letter” to Russian President Vladimir Putin urging him that “it is time” to protect children and future generations worldwide — a letter that President Trump personally hand-delivered before Friday’s U.S.-Russia summit in Anchorage, according to Fox News.

The Letter

Putin read the letter immediately after receiving it, as both American and Russian delegations looked on.

“Dear President Putin, every child shares the same quiet dreams in their heart, whether born randomly into a nation’s rustic countryside or a magnificent city-center. They dream of love, possibility, and safety from danger,” the first lady began.

“As parents, it is our duty to nurture the next generation’s hope. As leaders, the responsibility to sustain our children extends beyond the comfort of a few,” she continued.

The letter framed Putin as having the unique power to restore peace:

“Mr. Putin, you can singlehandedly restore their melodic laughter. In protecting the innocence of these children, you will do more than serve Russia alone—you serve humanity itself.”

“It is time,” Melania wrote, concluding her appeal.

Summit Outcomes

The letter accompanied the first U.S.-Russia summit since June 2021. Trump described the meeting as “extremely productive,” though he emphasized that no final agreement had been reached to end the war in Ukraine.

“There were many, many points that we agreed on, most of them, I would say. A couple of big ones that we haven’t quite gotten there, but we’ve made some headway,” Trump told reporters.

Next Steps: Zelenskyy in Washington

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed he will travel to Washington on Monday for talks with Trump.

“On Monday, I will meet with President Trump in Washington, D.C., to discuss all of the details regarding ending the killing and the war. I am grateful for the invitation,” Zelenskyy posted on X.

He added that Trump had briefed him on the “main points” from the Putin summit and expressed openness to a trilateral U.S.-Russia-Ukraine meeting to secure lasting peace.
