Early Sunday morning in San Antonio, Texas, police were called to a home following reports of a domestic violence incident.
Upon entering the home, officers found 25-year-old Jorge Chacon-Gutierrez, an illegal alien from Venezuela, lying in bed with a rifle.
Chacon-Gutierrez opened fire on the officers, prompting them to return fire. During the exchange, a female officer was shot.
Chacon-Gutierrez was killed during the exchange, but it’s still unclear whether he died from the officers’ return fire or a self-inflicted wound.
According to Fox News, law enforcement officers reported that Chacon-Gutierrez was apprehended by Border Patrol in November 2023 after illegally crossing into Eagle Pass, Texas.
He was then released into the U.S. without bond or conditions, with a court date set for April 2026.
Investigative reporter Bill Melugin reveals:
SCOOP: Per multiple law enforcement sources, the suspect who shot a San Antonio police officer w/ a rifle this morning is a Venezuelan illegal alien who was caught by Border Patrol in Eagle Pass, TX last November & was released into the US w/ his next court date in April 2026.
Per sources, San Antonio PD officers were responding to a domestic violence call just after 3 am. When they made entry, 25-year-old Jorge Chacon-Gutierrez was laying in bed with a rifle, and opened fire on officers. The officers returned fire, then retreated.
Chacon-Gutierrez is now dead, unclear if from return fire or suicide.
Per sources, the SAPD officer was shot multiple times, had surgery this morning, and she is expected to survive.
I’ve reached out to ICE for formal comment. More to come when I get it.
The officer, who sustained multiple gunshot wounds, underwent surgery on Sunday morning and is expected to make a full recovery.
