Federal Executions to Include Firing Squads in New DOJ Initiative

The Justice Department announced its intention to reinstate firing squads and lethal injection as part of a renewed commitment to the federal death penalty.

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche has authorized the pursuit of death sentences for nine defendants following the end of a moratorium on executions put in place during the Biden administration.

In its statement, the Department outlined actions taken, including re-adopting the lethal injection protocol from the early Trump years and expanding execution methods to include firing squads.

These initiatives are deemed essential for discouraging heinous crimes, providing justice for the victims, and offering much-needed closure to their families. The Department asserted this in its formal communication.
