Authorities investigating the assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk have recovered a home surveillance camera they believe may contain critical footage of the suspect’s escape.
Surveillance Camera Pulled
Federal agents and local police descended Thursday on a property along West Street in Orem, across from Utah Valley University (UVU), where Kirk was gunned down the day before.
A neighbor, Erwin Steele, told Fox News that his brother’s floodlight camera may have captured the gunman running through backyards moments after the fatal shot.

Agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) were seen climbing a ladder and removing the entire light-and-camera unit.
Steele said he believes the suspect used an alleyway to flee, then cut across his family’s property after bypassing a chain-link fence that separates their homes from UVU’s Campus Drive.
Person of Interest
The FBI confirmed that a “high-powered, bolt-action rifle” was found abandoned in a wooded area along the route the shooter is believed to have taken.

Investigators also collected a palm print, a footprint, and even a forearm impression at the scene, according to Robert Bohls, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Salt Lake City field office.
Late Wednesday, the FBI released two images of a man dressed in black they are calling a “person of interest.”
Bohls emphasized that tips are still being vetted but confirmed investigators are working around the clock.
What Happened
Charlie Kirk, 31, a husband and father of two, was addressing students in the UVU courtyard Wednesday when a sniper’s bullet struck him in the neck.

The fatal round was fired from roughly 200 yards away, with investigators pointing to a rooftop perch atop the Losee Center building across from where Kirk spoke under a tent.
Videos from the scene show panicked screams as students and attendees dove for cover.
Kirk was rushed to a hospital but pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
The killing of Kirk — one of the nation’s most prominent young conservative voices — has sparked national outrage.
President Donald Trump ordered flags lowered to half-staff until Sunday and posthumously awarded Kirk the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
The manhunt for Kirk’s assassin remains ongoing.
