Nathan Wade, the ex-special prosecutor, made an appearance at a post-primary election gathering for his former lover, Fani Willis, the Fulton County District Attorney, on Tuesday.
This has raised new concerns regarding her prosecution of ex-President Donald Trump and other co-defendants.
Willis scored a decisive victory over her Democratic opponent, Christian Wise Smith, by a margin of more than 30,000 votes on Tuesday evening. As reported by Fox News, she marked her win by joining the crowd at a gathering in Buckhead, Georgia, near Atlanta.
“Well consider me shook. At DA Willis’ campaign party in Buckhead, Nathan Wade just walked in. All smiles,” Reporter Tamar Hallerman of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (AJC) shared a post on X featuring a photo of Wade at the event.

Mayor Andre Dickens, Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum, and Bishop Reginald Jackson of the 6th District AME Church, alongside representatives from the DA’s office, were said to be present at the event.
Later that evening, Willis delivered a speech that seemed to allude to her case involving election interference against Trump, a case steeped in controversy primarily due to her connection with Wade.
“It’s a message that is p—ing folks off, but there is no one above the law in this country nor is there anyone beneath it,” Willis said.
Lawyers representing former President Donald Trump and several co-defendants in the sweeping 2020 election interference case leveled accusations of an “inappropriate” affair against Wade and Willis.
The allegations suggest that the duo were romantically linked prior to Willis hiring Wade in 2021, and that Willis gained financially from the relationship through shared vacations. Both Wade and Willis have denied these claims.
The relationship has posed significant challenges for Willis. Judge Scott McAfee, overseeing the case, granted permission for Willis and her office to proceed with prosecuting only if Wade departed. However, he also consented to allow Trump and his co-defendants to appeal his decision to a higher court, which Trump has pursued.
Earlier this month, Trump’s legal team notified the Fulton County Superior Court of their formal appeal against the court’s prior decision permitting Willis to stay on her RICO case.
The trouble for Willis started in early January when former White House staff member Michael Roman filed a motion requesting to disqualify DA Willis from prosecuting the case against Trump and his co-defendants after learning about her relationship with Wade.
On March 15, Judge Scott McAfee declared that Trump and his co-defendants did not “failed to meet their burden” of proving that the romantic involvement between Willis and Wade created a “conflict of interest” or that Willis gained from it.
Nonetheless, McAfee recognized a “significant appearance of impropriety” and determined that either Willis or Wade had to step down for the case to move forward in Fulton County. Within hours, Wade resigned.
