Rep. Eric Swalwell is a critic of Donald Trump who has been vocal about his criticism. He faces questions regarding more than 360,000 dollars in payments made to an American-Haitian staffer, which according to Federal Election Commission documents were labelled under shifting purposes and at times unusual ones.
Swalwell’s Remedy PAC and Swalwell’s Swalwell campaign for Congress have filed documents indicating that Darly Meyer has received over $360K in payments since 2021. Payments for travel, car services, security, and salary are among the many reasons given. Payments range between $50 and more than $12,000 for each individual.
Meyer is expected to surpass that figure again by 2025. The records also show reimbursements for personal travel expenses, “event flower reimbursement” and postage.
Meyer is the owner of CYD Global Car Service in North Hollywood, a limousine service that offers luxury transportation as well as corporate shuttle services. Meyer also administers a group on Facebook called CaliHaitians, which is a group of Haitians living in Az, Ca and Nv. It offers luxury transportation and corporate shuttle services.
Fox News Digital questioned the Swalwell Campaign about the changing payment classifications as well Meyer’s role. The campaign didn’t explain why the change occurred. Swalwell replied that Darly “protects me and [his] family”. He wrote that Fox News Digital had “emailed to ask why I have spent $350,000 in security.” and that he added “Perhaps I should send the reporter (the reporter) the bill?
Fox News Digital reviewed the online records of California’s Bureau of Security and Investigation Services and found that Meyer did not hold a license. Meyer refused to respond when asked.
Hans von Spakovsky is a former FEC Commissioner and Senior Legal Fellow at Heritage Foundation. He said that the documents raise serious concerns.
He told Fox News Digital that “this is the kind of bizarre inconsistency” that should attract the FEC’s attention. The agency should also determine whether or not the expenditures reflect “legitimate payment to a legit contractor.”
Swalwell has never addressed discrepancies found in the language of the documents. Swalwell has been a staunch critic of Trump’s supporters and has frequently called them out.
