Elon Musk has floated the idea of creating a “new political party” that he says will represent the 80 percent of Americans “in the middle” of politics with a poll.
This comes after he and President Donald Trump traded jabs over the “Big Beautiful Bill” earlier on Thursday.
Musk posted the poll on X, writing, “Is it time to create a new political party in America that actually represents the 80% in the middle?” and leaving it as a yes or no answer.

As of early Thursday afternoon, the results of the poll showed around 84 percent of participants answering “yes,” with about 16 percent of participants answering “no,” and around 270,000 had participated in the poll so far which had over 2 million views.
Earlier on Thursday, Trump as well as Musk took jabs at one another over their disagreements on the “Big Beautiful Bill” that was backed by the president. Musk called for more spending cuts to take place, writing on X earlier in the week, “I’m sorry, but I just can’t stand it anymore. This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination.”
This morning, Trump said from the Oval Office that he was “disappointed” in Musk, and claimed that Musk “had no problem with” the bill prior to departing his position as a special government employee. The president then said that Musk “all of a sudden … had a problem and he only developed the problem when he found out we’re going to have to cut the EV mandate.”
Musk responded to the accusation from Trump, writing on X, “False, this bill was never shown to me even once and was passed in the dead of night so fast that almost no one in Congress could even read it!”

Musk later on said that the president would not have won the 2024 election if he did not play a role. “Without me, Trump would have lost the election, Dems would control the House and the Republicans would be 51-49 in the Senate. Such ingratitude,” Musk wrote on X.
Trump later suggested on Truth Social that the best way to save more money in the federal budget was to cut subsidies and contracts Musk’s company, Tesla. “The easiest way to save money in our Budget, Billions and Billions of Dollars, is to terminate Elon’s Governmental Subsidies and Contracts. I was always surprised that Biden didn’t do it,” Trump wrote.
