Disney Pulls Jimmy Kimmel’s Show After Backlash Over Charlie Kirk Comments

Disney announced Wednesday that Jimmy Kimmel Live! has been pulled indefinitely.

The move follows backlash over Kimmel’s comments about Charlie Kirk’s assassination.

Kimmel’s Remarks

On Monday, Kimmel mocked conservatives responding to Kirk’s murder.

“We hit some new lows over the weekend,” Kimmel said.

He accused the “MAGA gang” of trying to score political points.

Kimmel insisted conservatives were mischaracterizing the suspect’s ideology.

The remarks contradicted prosecutors who said the killer was radicalized left.

Kimmel later attacked Vice President JD Vance in his monologue.

He dismissed Vance’s warning about leftist extremism as “bull—.”

Nexstar and Affiliates

Nexstar Media Group said it would no longer air Kimmel’s show.

The company owns or operates 32 ABC affiliates nationwide.

Nexstar said Kimmel’s comments were “offensive and insensitive.”

Executives said they did not reflect local community values.

They announced the show would be replaced “for the foreseeable future.”

Sinclair, the largest ABC affiliate group, also pulled the program.

FCC Pressure

FCC Chairman Brendan Carr warned Disney about Kimmel’s conduct.

He called the remarks “some of the sickest conduct” he had seen.

Carr said broadcasters must operate “in the public interest.”

He suggested ABC affiliates risked their licenses if they continued airing Kimmel.

“Do this the easy way or the hard way,” Carr told host Benny Johnson.

He praised Nexstar for “doing the right thing” by preempting Kimmel.

Political Reaction

President Trump celebrated Disney’s decision on Truth Social.

He congratulated ABC for having “the courage to do what had to be done.”

Trump also urged NBC to fire late-night hosts Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyers.

Donald Trump

Democrats blasted Kimmel’s suspension as censorship.

Sen. Ed Markey called it “censorship in action.”

FCC Commissioner Anna Gomez said the government should not police speech.

Fallout

Kirk’s killing has triggered nationwide scrutiny of remarks from media figures.

MSNBC and the Washington Post have already fired commentators over their responses.

Kimmel’s future with ABC now remains uncertain as advertisers weigh in.
