Dems Blame Trump Cuts for Texas Floods — NWS Says They Had Extra Staff

As Texas reeled from devastating flash floods over the holiday weekend, Democrats and liberal media outlets wasted no time blaming President Donald Trump for the natural disaster — accusing him of causing deaths through “staffing cuts” at the National Weather Service (NWS) and NOAA.

But the actual meteorologists on the ground say otherwise.

NWS Had “Extra Staff” — and Issued Warnings 12 Hours in Advance

NWS officials told the Associated Press that their offices were not only fully staffed — they were overstaffed to handle the storm:

“There were extra people in here that night,” said Jason Runyen, a forecaster in New Braunfels, TX.

Greg Waller, a top NWS hydrologist, added that the agency staffed 24/7 during the storm and issued warnings more than 12 hours in advance, escalating alerts as the flood worsened.

At 4:03 a.m., the NWS issued a flash flood emergency — one of the highest-level alerts possible, warning of “catastrophic damage and severe threat to human life.”

But That Didn’t Stop the Left from Lying

Despite overwhelming evidence that the NWS did its job, Democrats continued their political blame game:

  • DNC memos accused the Trump administration of contributing to “preventable deaths.”

  • Rep. Joaquin Castro (D-TX) demanded an “investigation” into Trump’s cuts.

  • Rosie O’Donnell ranted on TikTok that Trump gutted early warning systems — a claim proven false.

  • Harvard’s Larry Summers predicted Trump’s weather policies would cause “2,000 days of death.”

  • Even CNN and MSNBC pushed the idea that Trump and Elon Musk were somehow responsible.

Even Anti-Trump Meteorologists Push Back

Meteorologist Matt Lanza, described as a critic of NWS budget cuts, wrote:

“In this particular case, we have seen absolutely nothing to suggest that current staffing or budget issues played any role.”

He even praised the weather balloon launches that helped forecasters provide advanced warnings.

DHS and NWS Timeline Proves Trump Right

The Department of Homeland Security posted a detailed timeline on social media showing that NWS alerts began well before the flood hit, calling out the media for “deliberately lying” about the event.

“The National Weather Service executed timely, precise forecasting and warnings,” DHS wrote.

Trump Did His Job — and the Left Is Exploiting Tragedy

Even though Democrats and media activists continue to use every disaster as a political weapon, the facts remain:

  • Trump’s administration did not cause the flood.

  • NWS had more staff than normal.

  • Warnings were sent early and often.

Still, opportunists like Seth Abramson and Grok (Elon Musk’s AI) pushed fake narratives about Trump’s “cuts,” blaming him for dozens of deaths — without a shred of evidence.

Local Officials Say It Was Unforeseeable

Kerr County Judge Rob Kelly, whose own property was destroyed, said the Guadalupe River rose 26 feet in less than an hour — a historic spike no one could predict.

“Nobody saw this coming,” he said.

Chip Roy: “Stop Politicizing Tragedy”

Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) blasted the Left’s obsession with blame:

“In classic Washington D.C. fashion, everybody wants to politicize everything… Still trying to find little girls… still trying to find adults out here.”

“Don’t point fingers.”
