Rep. Dean Phillips (D-MN), a former candidate in the Democrat presidential primary, is urging New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) to grant a pardon to former President Donald Trump. Phillips believes that allowing Trump to become a martyr would ultimately benefit him politically by generating increased support from his followers.
In a recent post on Friday, Phillips strongly criticized Trump, labeling him as a habitual liar, cheater, and womanizer. He also highlighted Trump’s history of declaring corporate bankruptcy multiple times, his role in inciting insurrection, and his status as a convicted felon who manipulates public perception to portray himself as a victim.

“You think pardoning is stupid?” he posed in a follow-up post on Saturday. “Making him a martyr over a payment to a porn star is stupid. (Election charges are entirely different.)”
Phillips competed against President Joe Biden for the Democrat nomination, however, he decided to halt his campaign in March after experiencing significant defeats on Super Tuesday.
“It’s energizing his base, generating record sums of campaign cash, and will likely result in an electoral boost,” Phillips added.
