Democrats have just received their worst favorability rating in over three decades, according to a new Wall Street Journal poll. Only 33% of voters hold a favorable view of the Democratic Party, while 63% view the party unfavorably—the highest negative rating since 1990.
The numbers mark a sharp rebuke of the Democrats’ priorities, with voters rejecting their focus on illegal immigration, radical gender ideology, and attacks on traditional values.
Republicans Hold the Advantage
The poll shows voters now trust Republicans more than Democrats on key issues:
-
Inflation: GOP leads by 10 points
-
Trade and tariffs: GOP leads by 7 points
-
Illegal immigration: GOP holds a 24-point advantage
Despite some concerns about President Trump’s past performance on the economy and foreign policy, voters still trust Republicans more than Democrats to handle each of these critical areas in Congress.
Democrat Strategy Falling Flat
Democrats have been counting on backlash against Trump to regain ground in the next midterms—similar to their 2018 strategy. But the latest data suggests the public isn’t buying it.
Only 8% of voters view Democrats “very favorably,” compared to 19% who say the same about the GOP.
Party Identity Crisis
Democratic pollster John Anzalone, who conducted the survey alongside Republican Tony Fabrizio, admitted the party is struggling.
“The Democratic brand is so bad that they don’t have the credibility to be a critic of Trump or the Republican Party,” Anzalone said.
