Democrat election attorney Marc E. Elias boasted on Sunday that President Donald Trump couldn’t get a fair trial in the District of Columbia.
He made this statement after pointing out the low number of votes Trump garnered in the Republican primary held there on Saturday.
“In a city of 700,000, Donald Trump got 676 votes in the GOP primary. A tough jury pool…” he stated.
Elias leads the organization known as “Democracy Docket,” where he files lawsuits on behalf of Democrats, asserting that he is protecting “democracy” through his legal actions.
He was heavily involved in spreading the “Russia collusion” hoax, aiming to discredit the outcome of the 2016 presidential election.
He was also instrumental in suing states to change their voting laws ahead of the 2020 presidential election to enable mass vote-by-mail, a tactic that was crucial to Democratic turnout in swing states.
His statement not only acknowledged that Trump wouldn’t get a fair trial in a location where many potential jurors are against him but also celebrated this situation, believing it would make it even easier to convict the former president.
Trump is confronting criminal charges filed by Special Counsel Jack Smith in the District of Columbia related to his attempts to challenge the 2020 election results. This mirrors actions taken by Elias himself, who has also challenged the election results, even citing supposed issues with voting machines.
Elias has never been charged in connection to his involvement in the “Russia collusion” hoax. However, he was called to testify in the trial of former Hillary Clinton campaign lawyer Michael Sussmann.
Sussmann was acquitted by a D.C. jury, a verdict that some critics speculate could be attributed to jury nullification by individuals opposed to the former president, considering the evidence presented.
