Democrat Congressman Faces Backlash After Pricey Election Night Drinks

Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi is facing significant criticism after his supporters experienced shockingly high drink prices during his election night gathering. Attendees found themselves paying nearly $13 for a bottle of water.

The Illinois Democrat, who has served five terms in Congress, lost in a competitive primary against Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton. However, the high prices at his Chicago watch party stole the spotlight.

At this event, supporters were charged around $22 for a glass of wine, sharply contradicting Krishnamoorthi’s campaign emphasis on affordable living. The backlash was immediate and furious.

Many online commentators pointed out the irony, noting that Krishnamoorthi’s campaign had raised over $30 million, one of the highest totals this election cycle. His support from Fairshake, a super PAC linked to the cryptocurrency sector, also raised eyebrows.

A Democratic pollster humorously remarked on X, questioning how such prices could exist given the campaign’s expenses. Republican strategist Collin Corbett highlighted the absurdity, suggesting that these prices reflect how Krishnamoorthi values his supporters.

Even media outlets noted that the drink prices were reminiscent of those found in stadiums, generating further ridicule.

This situation starkly contrasted the image Krishnamoorthi presented to voters throughout his campaign. He frequently warned about the rising cost of living, stating, “Life has become simply too expensive.”

Meanwhile, Stratton’s watch party provided a much more favorable experience, featuring an open bar and complimentary food for her supporters, painting a stark picture of their respective campaigns.
