Maurene Comey, daughter of fired FBI Director James Comey, was officially terminated Wednesday from her role as a federal prosecutor in Manhattan, a Department of Justice official confirmed to Fox News.
Comey, who had served as senior trial counsel in the Southern District of New York (SDNY), was informed of her dismissal by the Executive Office for U.S. Attorneys. No reason was given.
Ties to Controversial Cases
Comey’s firing comes after her involvement in several high-profile prosecutions, including the ongoing investigation into Sean “Diddy” Combs and earlier cases against Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell.
Her father, James Comey, was ousted by President Trump during his first term for launching the now-debunked “Russia collusion” probe.
The Justice Department has recently acknowledged an investigation into the elder Comey.
A Longtime Target
Maurene Comey had long been seen as a potential target for removal under the Trump administration.
Her connection to cases that frustrated the president — and her last name — made her dismissal seem inevitable to many insiders.
Housecleaning at SDNY
Comey’s firing is just the latest move in a broad overhaul of the powerful Manhattan prosecutor’s office.
In April, prosecutor Matthew Podolsk stepped down, clearing the way for President Trump’s nominee Jay Clayton to assume the role of interim U.S. attorney.
Earlier this year, Danielle Sassoon resigned in protest after the DOJ dropped corruption charges against New York City Mayor Eric Adams. Sassoon had temporarily filled the position after Trump fired Edward Kim, another Biden-era holdover.
