Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) made an unprecedented call to break up Google’s monopoly, saying it is a “progressive technology company” with “monopolistic control of information.”
Vance wrote, “Long overdue, but it’s time to break Google up.
“This matters far more than any other election integrity issue.
“The monopolistic control of information in our society resides with an explicitly progressive technology company.
“In October and November, as millions of undecided voters consider their choice for president, they will go to Google and ask “Did Donald Trump say X?” “Is Biden too old to be president?”
“The results they see will be explicitly biased towards Democrats,” he continued.
“A threat to democracy.”
Long overdue, but it’s time to break Google up.

Vance made his statement following journalist Tim Pool’s sharing of a report from AllSides, a media bias watchdog, which highlighted the growing bias of Google News since the 2022 midterm elections.
Google News’ bias has gotten more pronounced since 2022.
63% of articles came from media outlets AllSides rates as Lean Left or Left. Just 6% were from the right.

“63% of articles came from media outlets AllSides rates as Lean Left or Left. Just 6% were from the right,” AllSides wrote.
AllSides then noted, “For search terms like “abortion” and “election,” results were also mostly from Lean Left outlets.
Outlets on the right never accounted for more than 12% of results, except for the term “.”
AllSides also analyzed Google News in 2022.
While Google curated 13% less Left-rated outlets in 2023, it curated 16% ???? Lean Left outlets.
The share of Right-rated outlets increased very slightly, by 3%.
The overall bias was still Leaning Left. pic.twitter.com/GrZC6P1NBw
